Fourth-round games set for Tuesday

The fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association basketball playoffs are set for Tuesday. In previous years, this round was played at a neutral site as part of a weeklong regional tournament.

This season, the higher seed will host unless the teams, and/or the NCHSAA, find a bigger facility if there are concerns. The East regional finals are next Saturday in Fayetteville at two sites.

4A East boys

Three Triangle teams and Wilmington power New Hanover make up the fourth round of the playoffs.

Third round games: 1-Cary 54, 25-Leesville Road 50; 5-New Hanover 62, 13- J.H. Rose 52 // 3-Millbrook 75, 11-Apex 74; 2-Garner 92, 7-Riverside 74

Tuesday’s fourth round: 1-Cary vs 5-New Hanover // 2-Garner vs 3-Millbrook

3A East boys

Southern Durham throttled Asheboro 71-51 while Corinth Holders lost at Fayetteville Terry Sanford.

Third-round games: 1-Eastern Alamance 76, 8-Southern Nash 50; 5-Southern Durham 71, 4-Asheboro 51 // 3-Havelock 84, 6-West Brunswick 81; 2-Terry Sanford 67, 7-Corinth Holders 49

2A East boys

Jordan-Matthews bowed out of the third round with a close loss in Elizabeth City.

1A East boys

Durham charter schools account for half of the 1A East boys teams left as Voyager and Kestrel Heights get ready for road trips.

Third-round games: 1-East Carteret 69, 8-Whiteville 62; 5-Voyager Academy 75, 4-Weldon 60 // 6-South Creek 59, 3-Trask 54; 15-Kestrel Heights 58, 10-Camden County 52

4A East girls

Three powerhouse programs are still left in the 4A girls bracket, with Hillside hosting Lumberton and Millbrook or Southeast Raleigh to come out of the other side.

3A East girls

Northwood and Union Pines’ seasons ended with big losses to teams from the Mid-State 3A. The conference also has Northern Guilford still left.

Bunn was tied at North Pitt before the Panthers ended the game on a 20-5 run.

It’s been almost all chalk in the 1A East girls bracket. Roxboro Community and the other top-four seeds play Tuesday.
