The Chapel Hill boys and Ravenscroft girls, the area’s only team swimming champions, placed four swimmers on The News & Observer’s All-Metro team.

Chapel Hill won its third straight N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A title while Ravenscroft took home its fourth N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A championship.

Carrboro’s Will Macmillan, Middle Creek’s Julia Poole and Corinth Holders’ Connor Blandford were each named MVP of their respective NCHSAA state championship meets.

Macmillan is the second NCHSAA swimmer to ever win three MVP awards.

The NCISAA does not hand out MVPs, but Ravenscroft’s Chloe Mikles made history as the first swimmer to win two individual events and two relays in four consecutive years. She will graduate with 16 first-place medals and four team titles.

Collier Cobb is the first N&O All-Metro selection out of St. Thomas More, a Catholic school in North Raleigh, in any sport.

Five swimmers are two-time All-Metro selections and three are three-time picks. Mikles and Chapel Hill’s Claire DeSelm are four-time selections.

There are 12 swimmers – the same number as there are events in the state championships – on the boys and girls teams, respectively. Each member either won an individual title, was part of a winning relay, won a state title in a previous year, or all of the above.
