Some of the best high school track and field athletes from around the country will come to Apex on Saturday for the Bojangles-Apex Lions Relays. It is the 32nd year of the all-day event and one of the biggest track and field events in N.C.

Big week for Roach: Former Holly Springs baseball star Joey Roach was the Louisville Slugger national college baseball player fo the week after hittin four home runs in four games, batting .500 with eight RBIs.

Roach was Carlos Rodon’s catcher when the Golden Hawks won the 2011 state championship.

Jalen Harris: Word of God senior Jalen Harris will sign with New Mexico on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2 guard had previously committed to Buffalo.

Raptors’ first signing: Sierra Street will be the first athlete at Research Triangle High, a charter school between Morrisville and Durham, to sign to play college sports – and it’s for a sport not offered at the school.

Street will sign to play girls lacrosse at Wingate on Wednesday. She played club girls lacrosse and played volleyball and soccer for Research Triangle.

Perry signs with Shaw: Bunn senior Tevin Perry, a 5-foot-7, 175-pound running back who led Bunn to its first appearance in the N.C. High School Athletic Association football championship, will sign with Shaw this week.

The Northern Carolina 2A player of the year ran for 2,334 yards (the only Triangle back to top the 2,000 yard mark) and 29 touchdowns, returned a kickoff and three interceptions for TD, added one receiving touchdown and had 12 two-point conversions.

Conference Cup: The Wells Fargo Conference Cup standings have been tallied at the end of the winter sports season. Each conference has its own scoring formula, but most Conference Cups are based on the final league standings.

In 4A, Leesville Road is first in the Cap-8, Garner first in the Greater Neuse River, Cardinal Gibbons leads the PAC-6 and Apex on top in the Southwest Wake Athletic. New Bern leads the Eastern Carolina 4A/3A with D.H. Conley in second by 1.5 points.

Chapel Hill (Big 8), Rocky Mount (Big East) and Cleveland (Two Rivers) lead their 3A conferences. Lee County is second in the Cape Fear Valley, one spot behind Fayetteville Terry Sanford.

Carrboro (Mid-State), N.C. School of Science and Math (Northern Carolina) North Lenoir (Eastern Carolina) and North Pitt (Eastern Plains) are at the top of their respective 2A standings.

In 1A leagues, Rosewood (Carolina), North Moore (Central Tar Heel), Franklin Academy (North Central Athletic) are among the leaders. The Tar-Roanoke 1A did not release its standings.
