The last time Jordan and East Chapel Hill met, the game took 13 innings and played out over two days before East Chapel Hill pulled out an 11-10 victory.

Strong pitching from Ben Miller of Jordan and Sean Moore of East Chapel Hill gave Friday’s game more of a defensive feel. It also had a different victor – Miller led his Falcons to a 4-1 victory to extend his team’s winning streak to six games.

Miller pitched all seven innings for the Falcons. He had six strikeouts and let his defense and his ballpark do the rest of the work for him.

“He didn’t stay as low in the zone tonight as he normally does, but we have a big field here so if you get the ball up in the air, it's hard to get it out of here,” Jordan head coach Aaron Brown said.

Making the complete game win even more impressive is the fact that Miller is just a freshman. With his pitch count rising and East Chapel Hill mounting a comeback in the top of the seventh, Brown stuck with his freshman pitcher.

“He told me he wasn’t coming out, so that was OK with us,” Brown said. “He did a great job tonight,” Brown said.

“He was effectively wild in the strike zone and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Three who mattered

Bryce Jeske, East Chapel Hill: “Bryce is doing a nice job behind the plate. We are probably batting him a little bit high in the order – we’d like the freshmen to settle in a little bit at the bottom end – but because of injuries we’ve pushed him up and he’s handled it really well. He’s doing a really good job, ” said East Chapel Hill head coach Phil Woodell.

Gabe Keaveney, Jordan: Keaveney had two hits on the evening, including a long double in the bottom of the fifth that extended Jordan’s lead.

Sean Moore, East Chapel Hill: Moore was dominant on the mound for the Wildcats and also made an impact at the plate. The senior had a double in the top of the seventh and earned a walk in four plate appearances.

By the numbers

4: Jordan scored four runs all in the final three innings of the game. Their two runs in the fifth inning by Wil Hoyle and Ben Miller were key insurance runs that helped put the Wildcats away.

11: East Chapel Hill pitcher Sean Moore had 11 strikeouts in six innings pitched.

They said it

“Miller did a really nice job, he’s a really nice player... He’s going to be tough the next three years. He’s tough now and he’s just going to get better.” – East Chapel Hill head coach Phil Woodell.
