Prep notebook: St. David’s boys’ golf wins NCISAA 2A championship

St. David’s boys’ golf team captured the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2A championship Tuesday, led by individual champion Parker Gillam, a junior.

The Warriors were in second place after the first day but leapt ahead of High Point’s Westchester Country Day (618) to finish with a two-day total of 602 at High Point Country Club.

O’Neal School was third (623), Trinity School Durham-Chapel Hill (672) was sixth and Cary Christian (687) was sixth in the 2A standings.

Gillam fired a second-day 69 to follow a 72 on Day One. His 141 was four shots ahead of O’Neal’s Jackson Van Paris and Westchester’s Harden Councill.

Other Warriors golfers were Andrew Wilmoth (tied for ninth, 152), Will Hanna (11th, 154), Gray Matthews (13th, 157), Preston Ball (164) and Will Lewis (165).

Grace Christian Raleigh’s Ryan Vander Poll and Trinity Durham-Chapel Hill’s Josh Bryan tied for sixth (150).

Gerard second in 3A: Ravenscroft junior Ryan Gerard was runner-up in the NCISAA 3A championships Tuesday, hosted by the Country Club of Salisbury. Gerard’s two-day total of 141 was five strokes off Cannon School’s Michael Sanders. The Cougars from Concord swept individual and team titles.

Durham Academy was seventh and Ravenscroft eighth.

NCISAA 1A: Lee Christian’s Nathan Holt and Kerr-Vance Academy’s Joseph Burnette were tied for eighth in the NCISAA 1A boys’ golf championship Tuesday, hosted by Foxfire Golf and Country Club.

Crosstown rivals Kerr-Vance and Crossroads Christian took fourth and fifth, respectively. Wayne Country Day was sixth and Neuse Christian seventh.

NCHSAA lacrosse: The N.C. High School Athletic Association announced game times for Friday and Saturday’s lacrosse championships. The 1A/2A/3A boys’ title game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park between the winners of Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Marvin Ridge-Northern Guilford. On Saturday, Cardinal Gibbons and Lake Norman have a boys-girls doubleheader with the boys at noon and the girls at 4 p.m.
