Eleven area schools will be playing for state championships on Saturday as several N.C. High School Athletic Association and N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association sports seasons come to an end.

NCHSAA lacrosse: Cardinal Gibbons and Lake Norman will have a NCHSAA lacrosse championship doubleheader on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

The boys (18-3) will play for the 4A title after sweeping both 1A/2A/3A championships over the past two years. The Crusaders have not lost to another in-state team since 2013.

The girls (21-0) have revenge on their mind after losing to Lake Norman in last year’s championship, 17-15 in overtime.

NCHSAA track and field: The NCHSAA 4A and 2A track and field championships are both being held concurrently at North Carolina A&T. Field events start at 10 a.m. and the first running finals are around noon. Southeast Raleigh is the heavy favorite for the 4A girls title while Hillside, Green Hope and Broughton have a shot on the boys’ side.

NCISAA track and field: The NCISAA 3A track and field championships are being hosted at Campbell University (field events at 10 a.m., running finals around noon) and the 1A/2A title is at North Raleigh Christian (same times). Cary Academy hopes to win both 3A titles.

NCHSAA boys tennis: Panther Creek is making its first appearance in the NCHSAA boys tennis championship games, but won’t know exactly when it starts play Saturday against Page High from Greensboro. The titles were moved from Burlington to the indoor courts at UNC, and it will be a rolling schedule starting at 9 a.m. with 1A followed by 3A, 2A and 4A.

NCISAA championship games: A handful of championships were moved to Friday to beat the rain. Greenville’s Oakwood School won the 1A softball title 17-7 against Erwin’s Cape Fear Christian Academy. The 3-seed Eagles end their year 12-4 overall.

Among those NCISAA title games involving area schools, Ravenscroft will host Arden’s Christ School at 2 p.m. for the Division I boys lacrosse championship and Durham Academy travels to Charlotte Country Day at 1 p.m. for the girls’ title.

Cary Academy has a shot at the 3A girls soccer title at 1 p.m. versus Charlotte Latin at Charlotte Latin as well as the boys tennis title versus Matthews’ Covenant Day at Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club at 11 a.m.

Conference foes St. David’s and Grace Christian Raleigh will square off for the 2A girls soccer title at noon at Caldwell Academy in Greensboro.

NCHSAA East finals: The N.C. High School Athletic Association East finals in baseball, softball and girls soccer are scheduled for next week. The baseball and softball finals are a best-of-three series.

Athens Drive and Franklin Academy girls soccer, South Granville baseball and softball, Princeton and D.H. Conley softball and Corinth Holders baseball were among the teams to punch their ticket to the next round Friday.
