Prep notebook: Millbrook’s Claire Griffiths named NCSCA player of the year

Millbrook junior Claire Griffiths was voted N.C. Soccer Coaches Association player of the year. Griffiths, a midfielder committed to Florida State, had nine goals and 11 assists.

NCSCA coaches of the year included Oakwood School’s Darren Dawson (NCISAA 1A), Cary Academy’s Jeff Costa (NCISAA 3A), Woods Charter’s Graeme Stewart (co-NCHSAA 1A) and Carrboro’s Jared Drexler (NCISAA 2A)

BASEBALL, SOFTBALL TITLES SET

The 4A and 1A N.C. High School Athletic Association softball championships go to N.C. State this year, while 3A and 2A softball heads to UNC Greensboro. The 4A and 1A baseball championships will be at Five County Stadium in Zebulon while 3A and 2A visit the Burlington Athletic Park.

Some Game 3 start times are dependent on whether the other series at the same venue also reach a Game 3.

4A baseball - 3-Green Hope vs. 3-North Davidson

Game 1: Friday 5 p.m.

Game 2: Saturday 11 a.m.

Game 3 (if necessary): Saturday 5 p.m.
