Mitchel Snyder was named the Cap-8 Conference boys’ lacrosse player of the year.

The Broughton senior attacker led the Capitals with 58 goals, 32 assists and 90 points. His 58 goals were third in the conference.

The Caps went undefeated in the league to win the Cap-8 championship, topping Leesville Road and Millbrook.

Synder accumulated the most points in the conference and was joined by four teammates on the first-team list.

Broughton’s Michael Raskevitz won coach of the year. He led the Caps to a 17-1 record, the only loss coming in a stunner to Holly Springs in the second round of N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A playoffs. Broughton was one of the East’s No. 1 seeds.

Enloe’s Rhen Bumgardner was named the offensive player of the year and Leesville Road’s Graham Holmes the defensive player of the year.

Bumgardner, the Eagles’ senior midfielder, led the conference with 66 goals, averaging a team-best five a game.

In the conference’s girls’ lacrosse, which doesn’t name a player or coach of the year, there were seven first-team selections from Broughton. The girls’ team also went undefeated to win the league title, and the Caps fell to Wakefield in the third round of state playoffs.

Among Broughton’s selections were seniors Farrell Guest, the conference’s leading scorer with 62 goals, and Hattie Warner, who scored 52 goals.

Wakefield, which fell to eventual 4A champ Cardinal Gibbons, placed five players on first team.

Among the Wolverines picks was senior Casey Sprague, who led the conference with 44 assists.
