The MLB’s Jr. Home Run Derby and Pitch, Hit and Run contests will feature three North Carolina representatives, each having won the regional or team championship of his or her age group.
Each contest will be hosted at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., the site of the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, with the Jr. Home Run Derby taking place on Saturday, July 14th followed by the Pitch, Hit and Run competition two days later.
Holden Cooper, 12u age division, and Owen Black, 14u age division, will join 14 other sluggers who advanced from both local and regional competitions to participate in the Jr. Home Run Derby. There were more than 1,500 local competitions held across the United States. A winner from each age division will be recognized during the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday, July 16th.
Kinsey Cave, one of three finalists in the Ages 7 & 8 group, is part of a group of 24 finalists ranging from 7 to 14 years old that advanced from more than 625,000 youth competitors vying for a chance to participate in the Pitch, Hit and Run contest.
Cooper hails from Raleigh, while Black and Cave come from Mufreesboro and Wallace, respectively.
The Jr. Home Run Derby will begin at 8:30 a.m. EST, and the Pitch, Hit and Run competition will start at 12:30 p.m. EST.
