Clippers 7, Bulls 1
Jesus Aguilar cracked a two-run homer during the first inning and a two-run, bases-loaded single in the second to help the Columbus Clippers to a 7-1 Class AAA International League baseball victory Thursday over the Durham Bulls. The opener of the four-game series was halted after 51/2 innings because of rain.
Trailing 6-0, Durham (39-29) got on the board in the third inning when Eugenio Velez walked with two outs and scored on a Taylor Motter double.
Columbus struck again in the sixth when Michael Martinez led off with a home run.
Left-hander Michael Roth (6-2) pitched all five innings for the Clippers and allowed just one run on three hits. Right-hander Dylan Floro (7-5) lost for the first time since May 16 by surrendering six runs on nine hits over five innings.
The series will continue at 7:05 p.m. Friday whend the Bulls are scheduled to send left-hander Scott Diamond (7-2, 3.04 ERA) to the mound against left-hander Nick Maronde (0-7, 5.59).
