Mudcats squeak out victory in series opener vs. Myrtle Beach

The Carolina Mudcats kicked off their three-game series with a 2-1 win Thursday night against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The Mudcats’ Jacob Schrader scored the first run of the game in the third inning with a fly ball to the center by Carlos Franco. Myrtle Beach’s Mark Zagunis and Carolina’s Johan Camargo scored runs in the sixth inning.

Matt Marksberry (3-1) got his third win of the season. Juan Paniagua pitched two innings, and with this loss, his season record is 3-2.

The Mudcats will go against the Pelicans for Game 2 at 7 p.m. Friday.
