Coats’ 2-run double in 8th sinks Durham Bulls
Jason Coats delivered his second two-run double of the game in the eighth to break a tie, lifting Charlotte past Durham 6-4 on Wednesday night at BB&T BallPark.
Durham (49-48) jumped out front against Knights starter Scott Carroll thanks to a pair of early homers. Richie Shaffer hit a home run in the second, then JP Arencibia homered with a man on in the third as the Bulls moved ahead 4-0.
Bradin Hagens worked through five scoreless innings and matched a career high with nine strikeouts.
However, trailing 4-0 in the sixth, Trayce Thompson smacked a two-run homer to kickstart the Knights (57-42).
In the seventh, Coats doubled to tie the score.
Kirby Yates (0-2) suffered the loss, and Jarrett Casey (9-2) earned the win.
The series finale will be at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
