Bulls beat Knights 4-0 to avoid sweep
Matt Andriese pitched two-hit ball over seven innings to lead Durham past Charlotte 4-0 Thursday night at BB&T BallPark.
Andriese ( 2-1) fanned seven and walked none to lift the Bulls (50-48) over the Knights (57-43) to avoid a four-game sweep. The win moves Durham to within 6 1/2 games of the first place squad in the South, the Norfolk Tides.
With the game scoreless in the top of the sixth, Charlotte starter Hector Noesi (0-1) walked Hak-Ju Lee and Luke Maile. After a sac bunt, Ryan Brett singled home two runs to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
In the ninth Maile and Boog Powell singled home runs for a 4-0 cushion.
Bulls’ pitcher Andrew Bellatti struck out five batters over his two innings to earn his first save of the season.
The Bulls head to Harbor Park Friday night for a pair of games against the Tides, who polished off a four-game sweep of Pawtucket Thursday. The opener will finish a rain-suspended scoreless game from July 3rd. The nightcap will feature the Triple A debut of lefty Blake Snell.
