2-out rally carries Mudcats to victory
The Carolina Mudcats parlayed four two-out singles, a passed ball and a wild pitch into three runs during the sixth inning Thursday night to rally past the Frederick Keys 5-2 in a Class A Carolina League game.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Reed Harper flied out and Dustin Peterson struck out to begin the inning against Luis Gonzalez. Jacob Schrader, Carlos Franco and Joseph Odom singled to get Carolina (52-52) even and put runners on first and second.
Reliever Jimmy Yacabonis came on and a passed ball allowed each runners to move up a base before a wild pitcfh scored the go-ahead run. Joey Meneses’ single brought home the final run of the inning.
Seth Webster and Justin Jackson took care of the rest as the Carolina pitchers allowed only one hit over the final three innings to shut downt the Keys (49-58).
The Mudcats will travel to Wilmington to open a series at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Blue Rocks.
