Durham makes a little offense go a long way in victory
The Durham Bulls snapped a three-game losing skid Monday night, winning the opener of a four-game set 4-3 over the Indianapolis Indians.
Despite recording just two hits, Durham (53-56) scratched across four runs behind the aid of five walks, two hit batters and two errors by the Indians (63-47).
The Bulls led 1-0 through two innings, after Corey Brown scored on a fielding error. The Indians tied the score in the third, but Durham scored three in the fourth inning.
With one out JP Arencibia and Brown were walked before Jake Elmore was hit to load the bases. Joey Rickard put the Bulls on top for good a single, before Hak-Ju Lee’s sacrifice fly scored Brown. An error in left field a batter later scored Elmore, putting the Bulls on top 4-1.
Willy Garcia hit a sixth-inning solo homer for the Indians, and they closed within a run in the eighth.
Right-hander Matt Andriese (3-2) picked up the victory, tossing five innings of one-run ball and striking out six. Radhames Liz (3-4) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks over six innings.
The Bulls will go for back-to-back victories Tuesday when the teams continue the series at 7:05 p.m.
