7-run sixth lifts Indianapolis past Bulls
Indianapolis broke a scoreless tie with seven runs in the sixth inning Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, propelling the Indians to an 8-1 International League win against the Durham Bulls.
After right-hander Dylan Floro (9-11) faced the minimum through five innings, Indianapolis (65-47) exploded for seven runs in the sixth. The Indians sent 13 men to the plate in the inning, compiling nine hits, including seven singles. Keon Broxton and Willy Garcia each singled home two and Dan Gamache had a sacrifice fly and RBI double to bookend the scoring.
Durham (53-58) scored its lone run in the seventh. After Ryan Brett singled, Taylor Motter walked and Jake Elmore singled to load the bases with no outs, Hak-Ju Lee was hit by a pitch to score Brett from third.
Chris Volstad (9-4) picked up the victory, surrendering just one run on six hits over 61/3 innings. Floro tied his career high with eight strikeouts, but he allowed seven runs on nine hits over 52/3 innings.
The series will wrap up with a 7:05 game Thursday night. Durham will send left-hander Drew Smyly (0-1, 15.43 ERA) to the mound against Tyler Glasnow (0-0, 1.69).
