Durham Bulls split doubleheader with Indianapolis

The Durham Bulls (58-62) scored 6 runs off 11 hits to take game 1 of their doubleheader against the International League best Indianapolis Indians (70-50).

The Bulls took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning after J.P. Arencibia singled in Boog Powell and Mikie Mahtook.

The Indians’ Dan Gamache singled to left field, bringing Tony Sanchez home and cutting the Bulls’ lead to 1 in the third inning.

The Bulls would extend their lead in the fourth after J.P. Arencibia came home on a single by Joey Rickard. Ryan Brett hit a 3-run home run in the sixth inning to make it 6-1 Bulls.

Blake Snell (W, 3-2) earned the win. He allowed 3 hits, 1 run and struck out 6 in 5 1/3 innings.

The Indianapolis Indians would later get even, winning game 2 of the doubleheader against the Durham Bulls.

The Indians struck first after Alen Henson tripled in the 1st inning and then scored on a wild pitch. They would extend their lead with a four run inning in the 5th, and then add on 2 more runs in the 6th to give them a 7-0 lead.

The Bulls would push a run across the plate in the 7th inning, but that would be all from them.

The Bulls’ pitching allowed 7 runs on 9 hits.
