Butler homer can’t prevent Durham loss to Bats

News Release

Hernan Irabarren singled in two during a three-run sixth inning that carried Louisville to a 4-2 International League victory Tuesday night over the Durham Bulls.

With the score 1-1, Durham (59-66) sent reliever Robert Zarate (1-1) to the hill, but he issued two walks and hit two batters to give the Bats (60-65) a 2-1 lead. Irabarren then stroked a 3-1 pitch on into left field to put the Bulls behind 4-1.

Joey Butler connected for a homer in the seventh to draw Durham within 4-2, but the Bulls were shut down the final two innings.

Everett Teaford worked the first three innings after Matt Andriese was scratched earlier in the day. Andrew Bellatti permitted the game’s first run in the fourth, but the Bulls tied the score in the fifth. Joey Rickard tripled and scored on Boog Powell’s single.

Rickard finished 3-for-5 to pace Durham’s eight-hit night. The Bulls stranded 10 baserunners during the first six innings.

Durham, which finished its road trip with a 2-4 mark, will open a five-game homestand at 7:05 Wednesday night against Toledo. Blake Snell (3-2, 1.48 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Bulls.
