Carolina Mudcats blow lead in 9th, lose to Lynchburg 8-2
The Carolina Mudcats gave up seven runs in the ninth inning, and the Lynchburg Hillcats went on to win 8-2 Thursday.
The Mudcats were three outs away from sealing a 2-1 victory, and taking game one of a four-game series against the Hillcats.
The Hillcats led the ninth inning off with a walk by Dorssys Paulino. With Mike Papi batting, Paulino moved to second on a wild pitch by Brad Roney. Paulino scored on a single by Eric Haase to tie the game at 2-2. Haase scored on a double by Claudio Bautista, giving the Hillcats their first lead of the game. Lynchburg pushed five more runs across the plate for a 8-2 lead.
Joey Meneses doubled to start the bottom of the ninth for the Mudcats, but Hillcats pitcher Grant Sides retired the next three batters.
Mudcats pitcher Brad Roney got the loss and blown save after pitching 11/3 innings, giving up three hits, four runs, and walking two.
