Mudcats finish season schedule with win in extra innings
Dustin Peterson broke a tie in the 12th inning to finish the Mudcats’ 2015 season schedule with a 6-2 extra inning win in Lynchburg on Monday afternoon.
Richie Tate earned the win after keeping the Hillcats scoreless over three extra innings of play.
Sever then pitched the 12th and allowed four runs and three hits in the inning. He gave up a one-out double to Reed Harper and walked Lien before allowing Peterson’s go-ahead single to center in the 12th. Peterson’s hit scored Harper from second and helped Lien as he scored from third on an wild throw by Frazier from center. Franco then followed with a two-run home run and the Mudcats led 6-2 in the final inning.
The Mudcats originally led 2-1 through the seventh behind a strong start from Seth Webster. Reliever Bradley Roney followed Webster, allowing the tying run.
Allen tied the game in the seventh.
Franco tied the game in the second after starting the inning with a walk, moving to third on a double from Joey Meneses and scoring on a groundout by Tanner Krietemeier. Another RBI groundout by Peterson in the third broke the tie and put the Mudcats up 2-1. Harper and Lien started the third with singles and Harper later scored on Peterson’s groundout to give the Mudcats the lead.
