Carolina Mudcats miss chance to win in 9th, lose in 12th to Salem
Keith Curcio’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the night got the Carolina Mudcats even, but Evan Phillips hit Yoan Moncada with a pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the 12th to give the Salem Red Sox a 6-5 Class A Carolina League victory Tuesday night.
The Mudcats had a chance to win the game in the ninth after Curcio’s sacrifice fly. Omar Obregon doubled, and German Taveras intentionally walks Dansby Swanson to put runns on first and second with two outs. Taveras, however, got Jordan Edgerton to fly out to left fielder Bryan Hudson to end the threat and extend the game.
After Salem took the lead in the 12th, reliever Yankory Pimentel replaced Taveras and got Swanson to fly out to Hudson, Edgerton flied out to right fielder Danny Mars and Braxton Davidson was called out on strikes.
