Bulls shut out in Columbus

Erik Gonzalez led off the game with a home run and four pitchers combined to hold the Bulls to five hits as the Columbus Clippers shut out Durham, 3-0.

Leading off the bottom of the first, Gonzalez drilled Austin Pruitt’s (3-3) first pitch of the game over the left field fence for a homer and a quick 1-0 lead for Columbus (27-21). Ronny Rodriguez poked a two-run single later in the inning, and the Bulls (20-30) never recovered.

Cody Anderson started for the Clippers and went four perfect innings. Because of a rain delay, Anderson left the game and reliever Jeff Johnson (3-1) went two innings for the win. The Bulls did not manage a hit until two outs in the fifth.
