Carolina loses series finale 5-3 to Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem used a five-run sixth inning to scoot past the Carolina Mudcats 5-3 at BB&T Ballpark Friday night.
Winston-Salem (21-34) trailed 2-0 going into the sixth, but that's when the offense went to work against Mudcats right-hander Ryan Clark (0-6). With runners on first and third and two outs, Marcus Davis roped a two-run triple to right to tie the game at two.
Toby Thomas followed by reaching on an error by the shortstop Reed Harper, allowing Davis to score to put the Dash ahead 3-2. Chris O’Dowd followed with a two-run homer to right to cap off the frame. Clark finished the game tossing six innings and yielding five runs (two earned).
Carolina struck back with one in the seventh off Dash reliever Andre Wheeler, but the left-hander worked out of further damage and proceeded to toss a scoreless eighth.
