Bulls come back, beat G-Braves for third straight win

The Durham Bulls erased a four-run deficit and powered through two rain delays to beat the Gwinnett Braves 5-4 Friday night at the DBAP, winning their third straight game.

The Braves (25-30) jumped on the Bulls early, scoring four runs in the second inning with five singles.

After the first rain delay, Durham stormed back in the bottom of the inning. After Richie Shaffer walked to lead off and advanced to third on Dayron Varona’s single, Luke Maile drilled an RBI double to right field to score Shaffer. Two batters later Varona scored on a fielder’s choice, and Daniel Robertson plated Juniel Querecuto with a two-out single to make it 4-3.

In the fourth inning the Bulls (24-32) took the lead for good, as Nick Franklin ripped a double down the right field line, plating Querecuto and Robertson to put the home side in front 5-4.

After both starters exited the contest after the first rain delay, Durham’s bullpen turned in seven scoreless frames, highlighted by three innings by Parker Markel, while Danny Farquhar (3-1) earned the victory. Rob Wooten (0-1) took the loss for Gwinnett, surrendering a pair of runs in the fourth frame, while Dylan Floro earned his fifth save of the season by recording the game’s final three outs.
