Durham Bulls can’t solve Buffalo’s Wade LeBlanc
Wade LeBlanc struck out 11 over eight innings to help the Buffalo Bisons surge past the Durham Bulls 5-1 Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field.
LeBlanc ( 7-2), who permitted just an unearned run in the third, came up one strikeout shy of matching a career-best. The game marked his eight consecutive quality start, and he took the International League ERA lead to 1.51.
One night after a season-high seven extra-base hits, Durham (30-37) managed just five singles against LeBlanc and Bo Schultz, who tossed a scoreless ninth.
With the score 1-1 in the sixth, Matt Dominguez drilled a grand slam against Durham starter Justin Marks ( 2-5). Entering the fifth, Marks had permitted just two hits and a first-inning run. Buffalo had loaded the bases on a single, walk and one-out hit batter. Dominguez drove home all five Buffalo runs.
Former Buffalo reliever Neil Wagner pitched a scoreless seventh in his first game against his former team.
Wednesday night’s series finale at 7:05 is scheduled to pit Durham’s Eddie Gamboa (2-1, 1.80 ERA) against Roberto Hernandez (2-2, 4.47).
