Pruitt leads Bulls past Tides, 4-1

Austin Pruitt won his staff-leading seventh game, working a season-tying 7 1/3 innings to lead Durham past Norfolk 4-1 on Sunday night at Harbor Park.

Pruitt (7-5) threw 106 pitches on a night where the Bulls (37-48) were lean on relievers. Pruitt permitted just a first inning run as he beat the Tides (33-51) for the first time in four starts.

Jake Goebbert homered in the first, then Jaff Decker drilled a solo shot in the fifth as the Bulls flexed some muscle after two straight games without an extra base hit.

Durham broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, sending eight hitters to the plate. The first five reached, with JP Arencibia and Mayo Acosta delivering RBI singles for a 3-1 lead.

Dylan Floro (S, 7) worked the ninth inning to close out the victory.

Durham returns home on Independence Day to open a three-game series with Syracuse at 6:05. Jaime Schultz (5-4, 3.43) is scheduled to start.
