Mejia hits grand slam, leads Lynchburg over Carolina

Francisco Mejia hit a grand slam in the first inning, leading the Lynchburg Hillcats to a 12-10 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday.

The grand slam by Mejia capped a five-run inning and gave the Hillcats a 5-4 lead after Bobby Bradley hit an RBI single earlier in the inning.

Following the big inning, the Mudcats went up in the top of the next frame when Luis Valenzuela scored on an error and Omar Obregon scored on a ground out.

The Hillcats later added three runs in the second and third innings and one in the fifth to secure the victory.

Cameron Hill (6-1) got the win in relief while Carolina starter Matt Withrow (5-5) took the loss.
