Bacus, Marmolejos lead Potomac to 4-1 win over Carolina
Jose Marmolejos doubled and singled, and Dakota Bacus pitched five scoreless innings as the Potomac Nationals topped the Carolina Mudcats 4-1 on Friday.
Gilberto Mendez struck out Luis Valenzuela with the bases loaded to end the game for his sixth save of the season.
Bacus (1-2) picked up the win after he struck out seven and walked one while allowing three hits.
Potomac started the scoring in the second inning. After leading off the inning with a double, Marmolejos scored on a single by Bryan Mejia.
After Potomac added three runs, the Mudcats cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Tanner Murphy drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Sal Giardina.
Caleb Beech (2-5) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and nine hits in the Carolina League game. He also struck out four and walked two.
For the Mudcats, Giardina singled four times.
