Joey Logano won his third Sprint Cup race of the season, fending off Kevin Harvick to win the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
It was the third victory of the season for Team Penske’s Logano, who won the same event in 2014.
Harvick’s runner-up finish came despite two penalties earlier in the race for pit road infractions. He continues to lead the Sprint Cup Series points standings, however, leading Logano by 43 points.
Pole winner Denny Hamlin finished third, with Jimmie Johnson fourth and Kasey Kahne fifth. Kyle Busch, who led a race-high 192 laps, was eighth.

After a caution on Lap 437, Logano took the lead on the restart and never gave it up, although Harvick came close to overtaking him during the last several laps.
Three who mattered
Joey Logano: Winning for a third time this season means he’s going to be one of the top seeds in the Chase, which is now just three races away. He’s still got Darlington and Richmond to increase that total.
Kevin Harvick: Finished second for the 10th time this season, but he said he’s not frustrated by that.
Matt Kenseth: After winning two out of three races, his engine blew on Lap 111, ending his night prematurely.
▪ A tough week for Michael Waltrip Racing got tougher when teammates David Ragan and Clint Bowyer – who were both running in the top five – were involved in a wreck on Lap 372. Sometimes a team just can’t catch a break.
▪ There was no movement among the 16 drivers who are eligible to make the Chase. Aric Almirola, who remains 17th, didn’t help his chances with a 17th-place finish. He trails Bowyer by 35 points.
▪ Bristol’s atmosphere is incomparable in NASCAR. Imagine what it’s going to be like Sept. 10, 2016, when Tennessee and Virginia Tech play a college football game in Bristol’s infield. It should be quite a night.
