Panthers Cam Newton will produce Hollywood fitness series featuring top pro athletes

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will star in and serve as an executive producer of an eight-part fitness series featuring top pro athletes, Hollywood tech and entertainment start-up Quibi said Tuesday.

Each episode of “Iron Sharpens Iron” will pair male and female athletes from different sports to work out, explain their training regimens and reveal what it takes to be in top competitive condition, according to a news release by the Los Angles-based company.

Newton and NBA Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young are the first confirmed pairing, Quibi officials said.

UFC champion Amanda Nunes and U.S. women’s national soccer team captain Carli Lloyd are another confirmed pairing, officials said.

The series will debut with the launch of Quibi on April 6, 2020, a Quibi spokesman told The Charlotte Observer.

Quibi is an entertainment platform designed to be watched on phones, the spokesman said. The service — $4.99 a month with ads or $7.99 a month ad-free — will feature “bite-sized stories created by Hollywood’s top talent,” according to a Quibi email to the Observer.

Newton’s Iconic Saga Productions created the series with production company Liquid Light.
