Offensive linemen top Panthers’ performance-based pay distribution list
The Carolina Panthers’ two second-year guards and their unheralded right tackle took home the team’s biggest bonuses in the NFL’s performance-based pay distribution.
The program awards players who out-perform their contracts, with players in their first deals or lower-salaried veterans often the biggest winners.
Right tackle Mike Remmers, who made $585,000 in 2015, received a 50 percent bonus with an additional $292,514, according to documents obtained by the Observer. Remmers started every game last season for the Panthers, who signed him in 2014 from St. Louis’ practice squad.
The Panthers recently extended a second-round tender to Remmers, a restricted free agent who is guaranteed $2.55 million for 2016 after he signs it.
Starting guards Trai Turner ($254,280) and Andrew Norwell ($243,619) received the most lucrative performance-based pay bonuses behind Remmers.
