Canes recall Leighton from Checkers

The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday recalled goaltender Michael Leighton from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and reassigned goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the Checkers.

Leighton, 35, is 2-1-0 with a 3.53 goals-against average this season for the Hurricanes.

Nedeljkovic, 21, made his NHL debut Tuesday in the 4-1 road loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, stopping all 17 shots he faced.

Leighton was in net Wednesday for the Checkers in a 4-3 overtime loss to Milwaukee.
