Canes to host Red Wings in Oct. 10 home opener
The Carolina Hurricanes will be hosting the Detroit Red Wings in their Oct. 10 home opener of the 2015-2016 season, the team announced Wednesday.
The Canes will open the season on the road against the Nashville Predators on Oct. 8 at Bridgestone Arena, the Preds announced.
The full NHL season schedule will be released Thursday.
The Canes hosted the Red Wings in their 2013-2014 opener at PNC Arena, losing 3-2 in overtime. Carolina coach Bill Peters was a Red Wings assistant coach in that game.
A year ago, the Canes were beaten 5-3 by the New York Islanders in their home opener, Peters' first game as an NHL head coach.
Home openers at PNC Arena have been a struggle for the Hurricanes, who last won in October 2008, topping the Florida Panthers 6-4.
