Hurricanes goalie Antti Raanta leaves Islanders game with apparent injury, Kochetkov in
Carolina Hurricanes goalie Antti Raanta left Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders after what the Canes have called a “lower-body injury.”
The team said during the second intermission Raanta was out for the rest of the game. He was replaced in goal on Long Island by rookie Pyotr Kochetkov, who made his NHL debut Saturday against the New Jersey Devils.
Kochetkov got his opportunity as an emergency call-up from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL after goalie Frederik Andersen was injured April 16 against the Colorado Avalanche.
Raanta showed some discomfort after stretching out to make a pad save during the second period of a Metro Division game. The Canes led 2-1 at the time.
He then made another sprawling save before play finally was stopped with 7:03 left in the period and Kochetkov came in to work in his second game in as many days.
