Canes reduce roster to 22

The Carolina Hurricanes have reduced their training-camp roster to 22, the team announced Saturday.

Defensemen Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin, and forwards Brock McGinn and Derek Ryan will join the Charlotte Checkers’ training camp. Defenseman Haydn Fleury has been returned to his junior club, the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

Noah Hanifin, the Canes’ first-round draft pick this year, remains on the Canes’ roster.

Finalized rosters must be returned to the NHL by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
