Canes recall McGinn, Pesce
The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday recalled forward Brock McGinn and defenseman Brett Pesce from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.
McGinn, 21, had a pair of goals during Charlotte’s two road victories last weekend against Iowa. He has totaled 17 goals and 12 assists in 79 games for the Checkers since turning professional.
Pesce, 20, earned a pair of assists during Charlotte’s sweep of Iowa. He’s in his first full professional season after completing a three-year career at the University of New Hampshire.
Canes forward Joakim Nordstrom missed practice Wednesday. Nordstrom blocked a shot Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings and his injury has worsened, Canes coach Bill Peters said.
Peters also said he preferred to take seven defensemen on the upcoming road trip, resulting in Pesce’s recall.
