Slavin, McGinn, Di Giuseppe recalled

The Carolina Hurricanes on Friday recalled defenseman Jaccob Slavin and forwards Brock McGinn and Phil Di Giuseppe from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League while reassigning defenseman Ryan Murphy to Charlotte.

It’s a quick recall for Slavin, 21, who made his NHL debut for the Canes Nov. 20 against Toronto and notched his first NHL point with an assist Monday against the New York Rangers. Slavim played six games before being reassigned Tuesday when the Canes called up Murphy from the Checkers.

Murphy, who suffered a concussion Nov. 14 against Philadelphia, was assigned to the Checkers after being medically cleared to return to action and played two games for Charlotte. He returned to the Canes for Thursday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

McGinn, 21, earned two points in his NHL debut at Detroit on Oct. 16, scoring on his first NHL shift, and had three points in 12 games in the NHL this season.

It was the first career NHL recall for Di Giuseppe, 22, who is second among Checkers skaters in scoring with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) in 20 games. Di Giuseppe, who played college hockey at Michigan, is in his second full pro season.
