Carrick called up from Checkers

The Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday recalled defenseman Trevor Carrick from Charlotte of the American Hockey League.

Carrick, 21, joined the team in Washington and was expected to make his NHL debut Tuesday against the Washington Capitals.

Carrick is in his second professional season and is tied for sixth among AHL defensemen in scoring with 37 points (9 goals, 28 assists) in 58 games. He is third among Checkers skaters in scoring this year and leads the team in assists.

Carrick was a fourth-round selection of the Hurricanes, 115th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
