Louisburg College wins junior college men’s soccer championship

Max Blackmore might not have scored a more important goal all season than the one he registered Saturday – the one that gave Louisburg a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Tyler (Texas) to become national junior college men’s soccer champions.

After a scoreless regulation and first overtime period, the Hurricanes freshman from England broke the deadlock in the 102nd minute as he made a probing run into the 6-yard box and redirected a crossing volley from Jaric Spath into the net.

Blackmore’s goal was his 34th of season.

The championship is the first national title of any kind won by a Louisburg men’s athletics program. With the win the Hurricanes improved to 24-1-0 on the year, while Tyler finishes at 19-4-0.

The Hurricanes’ Martin Dell was named coach of the tournament, while Blackmore earned tournament MVP honors after scoring at least once in each tournament match.
