Railhawks: Sandoval scores his first goal as Railhawk in win

The Carolina Railhawks held off the visiting New York Cosmos in a 5-4 scoring frenzy at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday night.

All nine goals scored in the match came in the second half of play. Carolina’s Devon Sandoval broke the scoring drought in the 48th minute with his first goal as a Railhawk. Ten minutes later, Leo Osaki extended the Railhawks lead to 2-0 with a bending free kick.

When the Cosmos cut into the Railhawks lead with a goal at the 64-minute mark, Carolina’s Enzo Agustin Martinez answered with a score of his own less than a minute later. Sandoval scored again shortly after that to make it 4-1.

In the 70th minute, New York scored on a corner kick to trim the lead again. However, Carolina’s fifth goal, scored eight minutes later by Zack Schilawski, gave the Railhawks enough of a cushion to cruise to victory, despite two more late scores from Cosmos.
