More than two dozen Triangle restaurants received A grades after previously receiving lower scores when inspected by county health officials.

State law requires health departments to inspect restaurants up to four times a year to assess their overall risk factors that contribute to foodborne illnesses.

You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The News & Observer previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.

The N&O reviewed restaurants with less than an A grade who were reinspected in the second quarter of the year.

All restaurants in Orange County all received an A grade in April, May and June, county documents show.

Wake County restaurant reinspections

The following Wake County restaurants were reinspected:

The following restaurants received B grades and weren’t reinspected as of Friday, July 31:

Inka Grill (16 W. Martin St., Raleigh) received a score of 83 in May after inspectors found containers marked as clean but had food residue on it, a live roach in the kitchen area and utensils not stored properly, among other violations.
Jade Garden (1207 Hillsborough St., Raleigh) received a score of 81 in June after inspectors found a staff restroom handwashing sink with no paper towels and dates missing on all perishable food, among other violations.

Durham County restaurant reinspections

The following Durham County restaurants were reinspected:

Asian Kitchen (1125 W. NC Highway 54, Suite 801, Durham) received a score of 93.5 on Tuesday, April 21. Earlier in the month, they received a score of 84.5 after inspectors found a live road near a meat prep sink and raw chicken stored above cooked ribs in a cooler, among other violations.
Bulldega Urban Market (129 W. Parrish St.) received a score of 91 on Tuesday, June 16. Earlier in May, they received a score of 83.5 after inspectors found sour cream with a use-by date of April, little to no handwashing and other food stored on the floor, among other violations.
Chelsea Cafe (1007 Slater Road, Suite 190, Durham) received a score of 96.5 on Thursday, May 28. Earlier in the month, they received a score of 89.5 after inspectors found a strand of hair on roasted potatoes and food spill stains in a freezer, among other violations.
Dame’s Chicken & Waffles (455 S. Driver St., Durham) received a score of 93 on Monday, April 13. Earlier in the month, they received a score of 88.5 after county employees “observed bags of flour and containers of oil stored on the raw chicken prep sink drain board while raw chicken was being thawed under running water” and some ready-to-eat food was not stored at proper temperatures, among other violations.
Gym Taco 5 (102 City Hall Plaza, Durham) received a score of 95 on Tuesday, Aug. 4. In June, they received a score of 86.5 after inspectors found food chicken and steak held at improper temperatures and a salsa bar without approved sneeze guard, among other violations.
The Federal (914 W. Main St, Durham) received a score of 95.5% on Thursday, Aug. 6. In June, they received a score of 88 after inspectors reported cream cheese stored at room temperature, raw pork stored above cooked chicken in a cooler and dishes in the handwashing sink, among other violations.
Koki (104 City Hall Plaza, Suite 101) received a score of 94 on Wednesday, June 24. Earlier in May, they received a score of 88 after inspectors found several cartons of liquid eggs with a use-by date of May 13, raw chicken on a prep container during the inspection and cooked pasta with a prepared date of April 12, among other violations.
Kabab and Curry (716 9th St.) received a score of 94.5 on Friday, June 5. Earlier in May, they received a score of 86.5% after inspectors found employees not washing their hands, food without dates on the containers and uncovered chicken stored near a wastewater pump in a cooler, among other violations.
Kinya Ramen Sushi Bar (202 NC 54 Highway, Suite 506) received a scored of 85.5 on Wednesday, July 8. Earlier in June, they scored 85 after inspectors found a handwashing sink with no paper towels, multiple knives with food debris stored as clean and crab thawing in a “container filed with stagnant water,” among other violations.
Mozzie’s Cuisine and Deli (826 Fayetteville St., Suite 103, Durham) received a score of 94.5 on Tuesday, April 7. Earlier in the month, the restaurant received a score of 86 after county staff found employees not washing their hands and nearly year-old eggs and year-old sour cream were found in a cooler, among other violations.
Pei Wei Asian Express (6910 Fayetteville Road, Space 230, Durham, inside The Streets at Southpoint Mall) received a score of 94.5 on Wednesday, April 8. In March, the restaurant received a score of 88.5 after violations of a leak from a hand sink and unwashed produce stored on top of cooked noodles, among other violations
Refuel 117 (2716 Guess Road, Durham) received a score of 91 on Monday, Aug. 3. In May, the restaurant received a score of 83.5 after violations of handwashing sinks without soap and multiple products made the previous day without dates on it, among other violations.
Tandoor Iron Grill Indian Restaurant (5410 NC 55 Highway, Suite I, Durham) received a score of 94 in May. In April, the restaurant received a score of 88.5 after inspectors found cooked foods with no dates and uncovered spices, among other violations.

The following restaurants received B or C grades and weren’t reinspected as of Friday, July 31:

Bralie’s Sports Bar & Grills (1725 Carpenter Fletcher Road, Durham) received a score of 84 in June after inspectors found “little to no handwashing” by employees during the inspection and other food that was dated in the kitchen, among others.
iHop (1821 N. Pointe Drive, Durham) received a scored of 87.5 in May after inspectors found multiple food items held at the wrong temperature in the cooler and multiple items in the coolers and freezers without covers, among others.
Jamaica Jamaica (4853 NC Highway 55, Durham) received a score of 74 in June after inspectors found “numerous mouse droppings throughout the facility” and uncovered food in coolers, among other violations.
Los Tres Mexican Restaurant (6905 Fayetteville Road) received a score of 87.5 in June after inspectors found deli meat and hot dogs without a date and salsa and sliced tomatoes not held at proper cold temperatures, among other violations.
Taqueria Mi Pueblo (1000 N. Miami Blvd., Suite 223) received a score of 86.5 in June after inspectors found raw chicken stored above pork in a walk-in cooler, a deep container of pork was discarded after it wasn’t cooled down properly and many foods, including queso fresco, pico de gallo and cooked beans did not have date markings, among other violations.
The Tipsy Bull (800 Taylor St., Suite 9) received a score of 85.5 in June after inspectors found employees not washing hands while switching tasks, raw shrimp stored above other items in the walk-in cooler and buttermilk in the fridge with no date, among other violations.
Thai Angle Restaurant (200 N. Mangum St. Suite 101, Durham) received a score of 87.5 in May after inspectors found liquid egg spilling on cooked food and food not stored at proper temperatures, among other violations.
Thai 55 (2223 NC 54, Suite Q, Durham) received a score of 81 in April after inspectors found multiple items not stored properly and multiple cooked items without dates, among others.

Johnston County restaurant reinspections

The following restaurants received B or C grades and weren’t reinspected as of Friday, July 31:

Seven Food Mart (11585 NC Highway 42, Middlesex) received a score of 89 in June after inspectors found “lots of flies” in the facility, no sanitizer mixed and available to use and no paper towels in the hand sink, among other violations.

Chatham County restaurant reinspections

The following restaurants received B or C grades and weren’t reinspected as of Friday, July 31:

Compadres Tequila Lounge (193 Lowes Drive, Suite 107, Pittsboro) received a score of 89.5 in May after inspectors found raw meat stored over ready-to-eat cut tomatoes and employees checking the temperature of rice without cleaning the food thermometer, among other violations.
Pittsboro Food Mart (113 Hillsboro St., Pittsboro) received a score of 89 in April after inspectors found employees not washing their hands after using gloves and raw chicken stored next to cooked chicken, among other violations.
