Why Prime Video Crime Drama With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes Was Cancelled

Not many shows with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes get cancelled, but “Bosch: Legacy” is one of them.

Amazon Freevee’s crime drama, which has a perfect score on the reviews aggregate site, was canned after just three seasons. It's a surprising decision, especially as the show seemed to be on track for a long and successful run on Amazon's streaming platform.

Amazon Freevee announced it was ending the series in September 2024. This was months before the premier of "Bosch: Legacy" Season 3.

Why Did ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Get Cancelled?

Titus Welliver, who plays LAPD detective Harry Bosch, said the cancellation of "Bosch: Legacy" was a surprise.

"We'd already been in conversations midway towards the end of the season talking about the next season and ideas [for season four], and we were getting very excited about the prospect," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"It was a pretty brief conversation," he says of the call informing him the series is finished. "We all expressed our disappointment."

As for the reason, it reportedly boils down to finances. Welliver said, "sometimes it's a myriad of reasons that I don't necessarily understand. I do understand that, given the economy and things like that, there are a lot of studios that have been experiencing budgetary restrictions…But, as far as that, I’ve never had a conversation where I sat down and said, ‘Alright, tell me from point A to point B what [the decision is] based on.'”

"Bosch: Legacy" is a sequel to the original Bosch, which premiered Feb. 2014 and ran for seven seasons on Prime Video, concluding in June 2021. It follows the former detective through his retirement, which is not such a quiet one given he's now working as a private investigator.

Is There a Season 4 of ‘Bosch: Legacy' on Prime Video?

No, there is no season 4 of "Bosch: Legacy" on Prime Video. However, in March 2024, Amazon greenlit a spin-off focused on Renee Ballard, played by Maggie Q. The series is based on Michael Connelly's novels, and may feature Welliver in a supporting role.

Is There a Season 4 for ‘Bosch: Legacy'?

A season 4 of "Bosch: Legacy" has not been officially announced, but it may be happening. “I would not be shocked if at some point there was a revisitation," Welliver told THR.

"We all have to continue with our lives. But if the fans have anything to say about it… and they are very clear about their feelings!”
