Hippity-Hop-scotch

The annual Hopscotch Music Festival is bigger than ever, with more than 120 acts in venues across downtown and – new this year – a show at Red Hat Amphitheater (Erykah Badu with Gary Clark Jr.). Lots of other national and local acts, like The Dynamite Brothers, from right here in the Triangle.

Raleigh Home Show

11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday; Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh; $5-$10 (12 & under free); raleighfallshow.com

The Raleigh Home Show returns with a great cooking stage, HGTV star Matt Blashaw and a chance to check out the latest “tiny house” fad: shipping containers used as homes or sheds. No joke.

Tar River Fest

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; Downtown Louisburg and River Bend Park; free; franklin-chamber.org

The 27th Annual Tar River Festival features live music and dance performances, food trucks, a kids’ zone, karaoke, “River of Yesteryear” demonstrations, artisans and more – including a 5K Tar River Run.

Off your gourd?

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday; N.C. State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh; $2 (under 16 free); ncgourdsociety.org

This festival – in its 75th year – features displays of gourds from around the world, gourd workshops, and vendors, crafts, art and more. There’s also a gourd crafting table for kids.

Happy birthday, WUNC

WUNC radio celebrates its 40th anniversary with a show featuring local bluegrass big shots Chatham County Line and Red Clay Ramblers.

Greek Festival

5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday; N.C. State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh; $2-$3 (under 13 free); greekfestivalraleigh.com

The 35th annual Greek Festival offers authentic homemade Greek food prepared by members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Family, using recipes handed down for generations. Also, live Greek music and traditional dances. A portion of proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wake County.

For the NPR nerds

8 p.m. Saturday; Durham Performing Arts Center, 123 Vivian St., Durham; $35-$65; dpacnc.com

To the delight of NPR nerds across the Triangle, “This American Life” host Ira Glass has a live show at DPAC, “Seven Things I’ve Learned: An Evening with Ira Glass.” Expect clips, stories, video and even a live dance performance.

African Children’s Choir

7 p.m. Sunday (Emmaus Baptist Church, Pittsboro) and 6 p.m. Wednesday (New Hope Baptist Church, Raleigh); free (donations welcome); africanchildrenschoir.com

You’ll get two chances to see local performances by this choir, which has performed before Queen Elizabeth II and alongside Sir Paul McCartney.
