WNCN and WRAL name new anchors
WNCN has picked Sean Maroney to take over the 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. co-anchor spot vacated in January by Penn Holderness.
Maroney, a weekend news anchor since he joined the station in May 2013, will anchor alongside Melanie Sanders at 6 and with Pam Saulsby at 7 and 11.
According to WNCN, Maroney was raised in North Carolina and worked for Voice of America as a foreign correspondent and served as the media organization’s bureau chief, leading their bureaus in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also worked as their Pentagon correspondent.
Over at WRAL, Renee Chou has been named the new morning anchor, replacing Kelcey Carlson, who left the station in January for an evening anchor spot at the Fox affiliate in Minneapolis.
Chou will anchor 4:30 a.m.-7 a.m. on WRAL with Bill Leslie, and then from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Fox 50 with Michelle Marsh.
Chou has worked at WRAL since 2004, starting as a reporter and then moving into a weekend anchor position.
