What to Watch on Monday: ‘The Alienist’ debuts on TNT, ‘The Resident’ finds its spot on Fox
The Alienist (9 p.m., TNT) – A new limited series based on Caleb Carr’s bestselling book about a forensic psychologist (Daniel Brühl), a newspaper reporter (Luke Evans), a secretary (Dakota Fanning) and a police commissioner (Brian Geraghty as Teddy Roosevelt) who begin an investigation outside the law to find a serial killer targeting boy prostitutes in 1896 New York City.

The Bachelor (8 p.m., ABC) – Raleigh’s Jenna Cooper is still in the mix.
The Force (9 p.m., UNC-TV) – This Independent Lens documentary takes an in-depth look at the Oakland (Calif.) Police Department, its struggle to comply with a federal mandate to reform and its effort to police in a time of transparency and accountability.
The Resident (9 p.m., Fox) – This new medical drama settles into its regular timeslot tonight, when Conrad’s plans for a heart transplant patient are derailed.
Love at First Bite (10 p.m., FYI) – Each episode of this new series follows a couple who met, fell in love and followed their passion for food together – and it opens with the story of Kinston chef Vivian Howard and her husband Ben Knight. A second episode at 10:30 features Korean chef Sohui Kim and her husband Ben Schneider.
James Patterson’s Murder is Forever (10 p.m., Investigation Discovery) – In the premiere of this new true crime series, a hit man targets a church-going couple in Carrollton, Texas, in 2009.
