C. David Jenkins

David Jenkins, 86 years old, passed into the morning light on October 8th at his home. He had been in declining health for several years. David was born on April l3, 1928, in Oak Park, IL.

He graduated with honors from the University of Chicago 1948-50, doing graduate work in Human Development . He received his Ph.D. in Psychology at Univ. of North Carolina in 1960. He held professorships in health related fields at UNC, Boston University and Univ. of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX. He worked with the World Health Organization in Geneva, University of Hawaii, and Pan American Health Org. After retiring to Chapel Hill in 1996, he enjoyed his work with Alamance-Orange prison ministry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Perry; his son, David and wife, Ellen, from Fernandina Beach, FL; two beautiful granddaughters, Avalee Jenkins Delay, and Emily Manken; and his daughter, Louise Avalee Jenkins from Nashville TN.

The family would like to thank Doctors Making House Calls, UNC Hospice, and numerous friends from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, United Church of Chapel Hill, and the Governor’s Club for their care and support during the last year.

A memorial service will be held at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, on Sunday, October 12th at 4 PM. The family kindly requests that no flowers be given, but that donations may be made to the Alamance-Orange Prison Ministry or the Music Ministry at United Church of Chapel Hill.
