‘Pampered' Golden Retriever Goes on Camping Trip, His Face Says It All
It's safe to say that camping isn't for everyone, as proven by one golden retriever, who has delighted internet users with his unenthusiastic reaction.
When dog owners Erica and Joseph Durling took their pampered golden retriever named Moose on a camping trip, they presumed that he would love the great outdoors. The couple, from Sonoma County, California, took their trailer out to Bodega Bay Area, hoping that Moose would enjoy the chance to be at one with nature.
Unfortunately, it turned out that 4-year-old Moose wasn't quite so impressed. Erica, 31, told Newsweek that his “unexpected diva behavior” during the trip certainly caught her by surprise. Rather than exploring the nearby woodland or digging in the dirt, Moose refused to leave the side of the trailer and stared glumly at his humans.
“He was unhappy until he was able to lay on the couch in the warm trailer or by the ocean,” Erica said. “We were a little surprised, considering he loves to be in cold climate. He often omits his bed for the cool tile floor and loves to sleep in front of the door during winter nights. So, we thought he would love the rain.”
After capturing footage of Moose's undeniable disgust while having to brave the outdoors, Erica shared the clip on TikTok (@eldurly). Internet users are obsessed with the “pampered designer dog camping in the rain” and looking utterly miserable about it. In just a matter of days, the video has generated more than 384,700 views and over 78,500 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
The caption alongside the clip jests that he was “just waiting to be let into the trailer” rather than embracing nature.
Moose is usually very easygoing and loves to play, especially when it comes to splashing in the water or games of fetch. But Erica explained that the golden retriever does have a certain lifestyle to uphold, as she told Newsweek that he gets groomed twice monthly, has a bed in the lounge, another bed in the bedroom, and of course “gets endless snuggles.”
The online reaction to the TikTok video is beyond anything Erica anticipated, and she's delighted that Moose could bring joy to so many people with his antics.
“I was surprised how many people related to this, especially people with goldens and huskies-breeds that notoriously love the cold. It's been so fun seeing people's comments relating to this moment,” Erica continued.
Many social media users took to the comments to laud the pampered golden retriever, leading to more than 100 responses on the post so far.
One comment reads: “His face really shows that he just wants to go home.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Send me a pin and I will come rescue you! How terrible they did this to you.”
A third person quipped: “I'm so confused…I thought we had a house.”
