Hearts Melt at How Pregnant Piglet Is ‘Nesting' Before Giving Birth
A heartwarming video of a miniature pig preparing for motherhood has captured attention on social media, leaving viewers charmed by her determined nesting efforts ahead of giving birth.
The clip, which was shared on TikTok on Tuesday by the account @minidonkeysandfriends, shows a pig carefully gathering items to create a nest for her babies. In the video, the pig can be seen trotting back and forth across a courtyard, collecting an assortment of materials as she prepares for the arrival of her litter.
"Little piglet was very busy on Friday, trotting back and forth from the courtyard collecting all different bits and bobs to build her cozy nest," the video's caption reads.
The poster, Gina Stallon, from Cornwall in the United Kingdom, later spoke to Newsweek, explaining that the animal featured in the clip is their miniature pig named Piglet.
"The video is our miniature pig named Piglet… In the video she is making a nest… She is a gilt, which means this is her first litter," she said.
Piglet had the freedom to roam widely while preparing her nest, which led to some creative-and unexpected-choices. The owner explained that Piglet had access to a large outdoor space and used it thoroughly while collecting items.
"She had free access to roam our 12 acres… She did collect some normal materials, such as twigs and straw," they said. "But she then proceeded to take my horse rug, his fly mask and travel boots. She emptied her bucket and placed that in her nest."
The video shows Piglet confidently dragging the oversized items back to her chosen nesting spot, undeterred by their size as she focused on making her nest just right. The unusual selection of materials quickly caught viewers' attention, adding to the charm of the scene.
Piglet's careful preparation paid off. According to Stallon, the miniature pig gave birth to a healthy litter shortly after the video was filmed.
"She gave birth to 10 beautiful, healthy piglets early hours of the next morning," she said.
The account behind the video is Mini Donkeys and Friends Cornwall, an operation that offers miniature donkey grooming and walking experiences.
Since being posted, the video has spread quickly across TikTok, resonating with animal lovers and casual viewers alike.
The clip has already received over 92,500 views and 7,247 likes on the platform, with many viewers expressing delight at Piglet's instincts and determination as a first-time mother.
