Golden Retriever Falls in Love With Most Unlikely 'Toy' and It's Adorable
If you've ever walked a dog who treats every sidewalk like a treasure hunt, sniffing each bit of trash along the way, this Golden Retriever takes it to a new level.
That's exactly what we picture was happening on this walk before the camera started rolling. By then, a tender-hearted Golden named Chester was already lying on the sidewalk, completely still, fully locked in and amazed by the beautiful sight in front of him: a crumpled ball of tin foil.
@chasin_chester For those that don't know Chester, when he falls in love, he falls hard. One person's trash is another dog's treasure. I also kid you not, when I walked back a few minutes later, I saw a black crow grab the aluminum ball and fly away and my heart broke a little bit for Chester. They'll never be reunited again. #dogsoftiktok#goldenretriever
Heartfelt Moments - Melody Silver Copper
For several seconds in the TikTok video shared by @chasin-chester, viewers can see an adorable blond Golden Retriever practically motionless, completely transfixed by his latest discovery. And as a relaxing instrumental melody plays in the background, Chester does not tug on the leash, try to get closer, or even look away. He has zero interest in anything else around him. Just quiet, intense focus-like the foil ball was the most important thing in the world.
Eventually, Chester's mom begins the process of continuing their walk. But Chester resists, remaining one with the sidewalk, so as not to leave his new love behind. Chester's mom fumbles with the camera as she begins to pull Chester to an upright position, and even as she gently guides him, Chester can't help but turn for one last look. He turns back with that lingering hesitation dogs get when they're not ready to let something go. The moment wasn't lost on one viewer, who wrote, "Awwwww and he turned around to say one last goodbye ," in the comments.
And if this feels familiar, it might be because this isn't entirely out of character.
According to the caption, "For those that don't know Chester, when he falls in love, he falls hard. One person's trash is another dog's treasure. " It's part curiosity, part obsession, and entirely endearing.

Viewers Are Smitten
"Oh my goodness, that face! I would give him everything, every time," one viewer penned. They're not wrong. Chester's wrinkly, old-man, smooshy face is positively irresistible.
Others are rooting for Chester to have his very own shiny foil ball. "Please make him a new Aluminium ball!" said one commenter. "You go home and make Chester his own tinfoil ball right now!" echoed another.
Chester's love affair with trash resonated with one fan. User @ladyspenser2 gave her honest take with, "That's me too, Chester. I'm always falling in love with trash, thinking it's special. Nope, just another Sagittarius breaking my heart." Oof.
It's a sentiment that clearly struck a chord.
And maybe that's part of the charm. Chester's brief love affair with a crumpled piece of sidewalk trash is silly, sweet, and a little too relatable all at once. Whether it's foil balls or something a little more complicated, it seems he's not the only one who gets a little too attached to things that don't always stick around.
