A viral raccoon TikTok video is getting a lot of laughs online, but it's also sparking a bigger conversation about feeding raccoons and what can happen when wild animals get a little too comfortable around humans.

In the clip, a raccoon casually rings a doorbell in the middle of the night after @bradlea.buehler forgot to put out food for the stray cats. The hungry visitor seemed to be placing an order-but ended up "snitching" on Bradlea to her husband instead. It's funny, sure-but it also shows just how quickly these animals can learn to rely on people like this well-meaning mama.

Listen.. I was feeding the stray cats, the raccoon just decided to capitalize on that and now he's SNITCHING bc I missed a night?! #justagirl#racoon#help#wildlife#cats

This stubborn raccoon knew exactly what they wanted, and they weren't afraid to ask for it! They may not have known they were on camera or that they were ringing the doorbell, but they were incredibly smart to investigate the doorbell camera at all.

A few commenters feel for Bradlea, who can't help but help the local stray cats, even if it means feeding some unexpected friends, too. However, most viewers feel for the hungry raccoon! Just like @imhiskindacrazy commented, "If there was a full bowl out there, he wouldn't need to ring the bell."

It turns out the raccoon isn't the only one to call Bradlea out! Plenty of commenters begged her to give her wildlife friends an extra dose of love, especially because others can be harsh to unwelcome animal friends.

Still, experts make a strong case for not feeding wild animals. Wildlife officials often warn that feeding raccoons can lead to animals losing their natural fear of humans and returning more frequently.

Why Raccoons Ring Doorbells for Food

Feeding raccoons, whether you meant to or not, may be a rewarding task that lasts all year long. Still, it's important to be cautious when sharing a space with any rodent friend like this curious raccoon. They may be adorable and insanely smart, but relying too much on humans can make it harder for them to find food in the wild.

Fortunately for wife and mama @bradlea.buehler, only one raccoon found their way into the cats' breakfast bowl, but that wasn't the case for everyone. Commenter @mavericksmom47 shared a suspenseful story that could make anyone rethink things.

She wrote, "In my old house, I used to leave a bowl of cat food out for the raccoons outside of my master bedroom porch, which had a sliding glass door. One night, I forgot to leave the bowl out, but accidentally left the sliding glass door open and woke up to a raccoon's hand on my face, gently waking me up to remind me. They don't play when it comes to their food."

Raccoons may be cute, but they're also sneaky scavengers when they need to be! Nothing will get in the way of a raccoon snitching or stealing something yummy, even if they become so reliant on a human that they ring the doorbell or find their way into their home.
